The superiority of optical fiber communication

Fasocom as a professional optical optical cables manufacturer. Please allow me to introduce to you the superiority of optical fiber communication.
The rapid development of optical fiber communication technology since the early 1970s is primarily attributed to its unparalleled superior characteristics, which are specifically as follows.
1、Wide transmission bandwidth and large communication capacity
Communication capacity is directly proportional to carrier frequency, and increasing the carrier frequency can achieve the goal of expanding communication capacity. The frequency of light waves is much higher than that of wireless communication, so its communication capacity is also significantly increased.
The operating frequency of optical fiber communication ranges from 10¹² to 10¹⁶ Hz. If the frequency band of a voice channel is set to 4 kHz, then more than 1 billion telephone channels can be transmitted over a pair of optical fibers. Currently, the bandwidth of single-mode optical fibers is extremely wide, so transmitting optical carrier signals using single-mode optical fibers can achieve a huge communication capacity.
2、Low transmission loss and long relay distance.
The transmission distance is inversely proportional to the transmission loss on the line, meaning that the smaller the transmission loss, the longer the relay distance. Currently, when SiO2 fiber optic lines operate at a wavelength of 1.55 μm, the transmission loss can be lower than 0.2 dB/km, and the maximum system relay distance can reach up to 200 km. In systems that utilize optical amplifiers for relay amplification, the maximum relay distance without electrical regeneration can exceed 600 km. This ensures that, while maintaining transmission quality, the distance of long-distance trunk lines without electrical relay can be extended, reducing the number of relay stations. This is particularly significant for enhancing the reliability and stability of communication.
3、 Strong ability to resist electromagnetic interference
Due to the use of dielectric waveguides for signal transmission in optical fiber communication, and the fact that optical signals are concentrated within the core for transmission, optical fiber communication exhibits strong anti-interference capabilities and good confidentiality.
In addition, optical fibers are thin and lightweight, and the resources for manufacturing optical fibers are abundant.
Due to its aforementioned advantages, optical fiber communication has developed rapidly and occupies a very important position in the information society of the 21st century.
